Here are some fun photos from our December together, prior to leaving for a well deserved break:

On Tuesday, we had lunch together in the classroom.  These are the photos with the red tablecloth.  It was a great send off for the long break!

Learning to Trust One Another

P1040508P1040507P1040506

This week we missed our regular Advisory Meetings due to the Veteran’s Day holiday but we did have the opportunity to head back out to the woods with another Mr. Caron Challenge.  The focus for this week was learning how to trust one another.  In order to create an environment where every single student is able to learn we know that our community of learners must trust one another.  The challenge involved leading blindfolded students to a specific location, needing to direct with our voices and directions only.  It was a process that magnified the need to pay attention to directions and to speak out when you needed more or different directions.

Students:  Leave a comment and let us know what it felt like to be either the blindfolded participant or the person giving directions.  At which point were you more comfortable?

Social Studies – Freedom Trail Field Trip and More.

After our successful field trip to Boston at the start of October, students wrote a quick reflection of what they learned.  Here are some student quotes:

“One of the sites we stopped to was the Copp’s Hill Burying ground.  I learned the graves were probably only half the people buried there.”

“Also we learned what Paul Revere actually said on his midnight ride.  He said, The regulars are coming!”

“I also learned that Britain really didn’t mean to fire their guns during the Boston Massacre.”

“I thought the most interesting site to see was the Sam Adams statue.”

“I loved the tour and whole trip.  It was so much fun.”

“Boston helped me picture the events going on and figure out exactly where they happened.”

“Our tour guide was super funny.”

“Whenever you step foot in the Copp’s HIll Burying Ground you are stepping on a dead body.”

“We learned that the British soldiers would practice in the the Boston Common and the Patriots could watch and learn how the British would fight in the war.”

In class, we have moved forward from the causes of the Revolutionary War to the official declaration of war with the Declaration of Independence.  A good link to review the Winter in Trenton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF-Y7s_YIAU.

The TEST for our Revolutionary War is taking place on Tuesday.  Students will share their understanding of the causes, some battles, key documents, like the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Paris, 1783, and important people.  In addition, students will need to fill out a 13 Colonies Map.  We have been reviewing extensively in class for the past week.
